Sector Commands

Overview

While the Alliance Forces are mobile, fighting the Empire where ever and when ever Alliance High Command sees fit, the Sector Forces are static. They fight the Empire in their Sector of space. They fight on a daily basis, for minuscule gains and potentially catastrophic losses. Their defeats – and victories – often go unnoticed and unrecorded.
spacer-blank.png
And if successful, their success may simply drive the Empire to greater efforts to destroy them. Having little or no space transport, of necessity based in a single system, they are sitting targets and the planets in their systems can be held hostage against their actions. A Sector Force which is too successful may drive the Empire to destroy by orbital bombardment planets suspected of collaboration.

Creation of Sector Forces

Like their political opposites, the Allied Commands, Sector Forces are created out of whatever resistance organisation is in place when the sector is recruited into the Alliance, built out of whatever manpower, equipment, and level of commitment is available. Some SecForces are powerful, smoothly-integrated military units, with complete ground, air, and space forces at their command. Other units are mere shells or fragments, with perhaps several thousand part-time guerrillas and a few motley spacecraft – if that.
spacer-blank.png
Though, by treaty, they have the right, the Alliance military has neither the time nor the resources to mould every sector’s forces into a smoothly-integrated machine and bring it up to full power. Instead it concentrates its efforts upon ensuring that its interface with the sector – the Sector Forces Command – has a sound basic understanding of the Alliance’s military objectives, strategy and tactics and has sufficient communications to keep in contact with the Alliance Command. Beyond that, unless the sector warrants the commitment of Alliance-supplied material such as starfighters, the Sector Forces are allowed to set up their own structure and use their own assets however they see fit.
spacer-blank.png
There have been cases where Alliance Sector Command has stepped in and completely reorganised a Sector Force’s command structure because it was highly incompetent, corrupt, or riddled with Imperial spies, but these instances have been rare – the Alliance simply does not have the resources, and the last thing it needs to get embroiled in is a power struggle with an entrenched military organisation.
spacer-blank.png
Usually, if a Sector Force is not trusted, the Alliance merely does not commit any starfighters, men or secret intelligence to it. When the Sector Force eventually falls apart, as it inevitably does, Alliance Command then steps in and rebuilds it from scratch. These draconian measures can be cruelly hard upon the often resistance fighters in the Sector under the incompetent leadership, but, given the scale of the conflict, there is nothing else that can be done.
spacer-blank.png

Function

As described above, Sector Commands control most of the Rebellion’s activities within a sector. They are smaller versions of the High Command Base, with lower-level governmental and military officials performing for their sector what Alliance High Command does for the entire Alliance.
spacer-blank.png
In addition, Sector Commands often house the sector’s entire complement of starfighters. Thus, in addition to their heavy command and coordination responsibilities, these bases also serve as the Alliance’s main offensive arm in the sectors.
spacer-blank.png
Obviously, the loss of a Sector Command Base is a crushing blow to the Allied ground and intelligence forces in the sector, leaving them disorganised, cut off from communication with each other and the rest of the Alliance, and virtually with no space protection at all. If a Sector Command is destroyed, usually all the sector’s forces can go into hiding and wait until Alliance High Command re-establishes contact.
spacer-blank.png

Personnel

Sector Command Bases are usually under the control of the Chief Executive of the sector. This person is the highest- ranking civilian official in the sector. He holds much of the same authority over his sector as does Mon Mothma over the Alliance. The Chief Executive is assisted by his cabinet and a host of communications workers, secretaries and other civilian functionaries.
spacer-blank.png
The Chief Executive and Cabinet are not always stationed within the Sector Command. For example, when the Chief Executive of the Alliance Forces is also a planetary and system leader, the Chief Exec may have his Alliance offices hidden within the planetary capital’s government offices. In such cases, the Chief Exec would appoint a liaison to the Sector Command who would be empowered to act in his name in case of an emergency.
spacer-blank.png
The Sector Command Base houses most of the Sector’s high-level intelligence officials: senior case officers, intentions officers, cryptologists, and so forth. Field officers – agents – are usually not allowed to even know the Sector Command’s location. There is simply too great of a chance of capture, and, Imperial interrogation techniques being what they are, too great of a chance of the captured agent talking.
spacer-blank.png
In addition to civilian and intelligence officers, many of the Sector’s highest-level military officers are stationed at the Sector Command. They include the Sector Military Commander and his staff, starfighter coordinator, supply chief, and other senior military officials who do not have field commands. These beings are responsible for coordinating the sector’s military efforts with other sectors and Alliance High Command.
spacer-blank.png
In addition to the officials listed above, the Sector Command houses maintenance personnel, medical officers, communications specialists, servants, cooks and mechanics, along with the base’s security personnel and military units assigned to its defence.
spacer-blank.png

Defences

As mentioned above, the Sector Command Base usually houses the sector’s main complement of starfighters, and they are its most potent line of defence. Depending upon its location and the likelihood of Imperial attack, the base may also contain anywhere from 20 to 1,000, infantrymen, plus artillery, combat vehicles and the like. It must be remembered, however, that a base’s primary defence is its invisibility. If its location is discovered, the most that the base’s defenders can hope to accomplish is to delay the Imperials until the personnel evacuate. Though there have been occasions when a Sector Command base has been discovered and remained in existence (because the Imperials could not readily muster the forces to wipe it out), these are the exceptions which prove the rule. In the majority of cases, once discovered, a Sector Command’s days are severely numbered.
spacer-blank.png

Equipment

A Sector Command base is equipped with communications equipment allowing it to establish contact with Alliance units throughout the sector, as well with other Sector Commands. In addition, the base will probably have starfighter repair equipment, a good supply of infantry weapons and gear – including speeders and speeder bikes, though probably not including artillery – and intelligence-gathering equipment and medical facilities.

The Fakir Sector

Sector Geography

The Fakir Sector, until recently, was a relatively unimportant piece of Imperial space located near the Galactic Core. Since the collective uprising of the Rebel Alliance and the coherent organisation of attacks conducted throughout the sector, the Empire has taken a keen interest in the Sector.
spacer-blank.png
There are several hundred planets suitable for habitation in the sector; approximately 50 of them contain intelligent life-forms, of which perhaps 10 have achieved the level of technology necessary to produce space travel. Humans have colonised about 150 planets in the sector.
spacer-blank.png
The main capital of the Fakir Sector is Vakkar, which is located in the centre of the Reissian Cluster. This system also houses the Imperial Sector Headquarters. The systems has been provided with a number of Imperial vessels for the patrolling of the Sector. The Empire maintains 3 Imperial Star Destroyers, the Colossus, the Intimidator and more recently, the Wraith. Occasionally, the Moff or Governor General will allow Star Destroyers from other systems to perform manoeuvres in the area. With the rumours that the Rebellion has created a much larger Sector Force, the Moff of the Sector never has a problem of allowing other Star Destroyers to “poach”. The Empire also maintains a handful of smaller patrol ships, customs vessels, and Skipray Blastboats. There are several TIE squadrons. 5 Imperial Customs corvettes are also used within the sector for custom patrols and the like. If necessary, the Empire may gain extra supplies and reinforcements from the Central Core worlds due to the Sectors location.
spacer-blank.png
One of the most important systems in the Fakir Sector is the Imperial Refuelling and Supply Depot on Refrax, commonly called, Imperial Depot 431. The Chameleon, an Interdictor Class Cruiser is stationed here at all times since the previous attack by rebel forces (the combined strength of the Reekeene Roughnecks and the Sarnikalon Resistance Force).
spacer-blank.png

History of the Fakir Sector Force

The Fakir Sector Force was established less than one year ago. The Sector Group came into force after two resistance factions, the Reekeene Roughnecks and the Sarnikalon Resistance Force combined against the Empire. The combination was one of necessity, as both sides realised that neither had enough resources to take on the Imperial war machine. After lengthy negotiation with the Kaldra, both groups became trusted allies. As usual, the Rebellion had kept an eye on the Sector, and when High Command found that the Roughnecks and the Sarnikalon Resistance Force had amalgamated, it made the job of approaching the groups to join the Alliance easier.
spacer-blank.png

Pre Sector Force

Prior to the amalgamation of the Reekeene Roughnecks and the Sarnikalon Resistance Force, the Roughnecks were a small resistance group, who had taken it upon themselves to conduct lightning raids in the Fakir Sector. The Reekeene Roughnecks were founded by a number of individuals. The leader was Lens Reekeene, a human female mercenary, who had become infamous amongst most Imperial Outposts and establishments within the sector for her efforts against the Empire. Len’s husband Mikka, a brilliant mechanic, was also paramount in the creation of the Roughnecks along with the strange but wise alien, Santhou Lazith’chika.
spacer-blank.png
The Roughnecks had been plaguing the Fakir Sector for ages. Over time though, the Roughnecks found that their numbers were becoming low and most of their time was spent recruiting, rather than conducting further raids. The Roughnecks were desperate, but they knew that if they could find another sizeable resistance group, they might be able to combine and strengthen their forces. Lens made a call for assistance, being careful not to alert the Empire, and was soon contacted by an agent from a strong quasi-military resistance group, the Sarnikalon Resistance Force.
spacer-blank.png
Sarnikalon, a planet in the Fakir Sector, had fallen on hard times. The planet had been pushed into semi-slavery after their leader, Director Jorell Dankwater, had been removed from office by the conniving and treacherous Assistant Director, Kruxx Borg. It was not until the return of the deceased leader’s son, Midge Dankwater that a rebellion occurred on the planet. Midge had left the planet before Borg had taken control, and was pursuing a career as an Engineer. Upon his return, Midge found his planet in tatters, his father “dead” and his mother and sister enslaved. Midge could not sit back and watch Borg destroy everything that he knew was right and so established the Sarnikalon Resistance Force.
spacer-blank.png
With the assistance of numerous resistance factions that had been created since Borg had taken over, Midge was able to establish a base, known as the Fortress of Solitude, in the mountains of the planet’s North pole. Midge organised many skirmishes against the Empire and the Borg Government. Approximately 6 months before the destruction of the Death Star, the Imperial forces on Sarnikalon were increased, causing the Sarnikalon Resistance Force enormous casualties. This is when Midge received the call for assistance from the Roughnecks. He made contact with the Roughnecks and both groups established a stable working environment and continued as a united front. The combination culminated in a fierce battle with Imperial Forces at the Imperial Supply and Refuelling Depot on Refrax, in which the two groups suffered severe casualties, but caused a major supply problem for the Empire over the next year. This assisted both groups to re-establish their position in the Sector.
spacer-blank.png
Approx 2 months after the battle, the groups were approached by the Rebel Alliance to help in the struggle against the Empire. The two resistances officially amalgamated and joined the Rebel Alliance. A short time later, the group was incorporated into the High Command Hierarchy and became known as the Fakir Sector Force.
spacer-blank.png

Current Status of Fakir Sector Force

The newly established Sector Force uses the Roughnecks’ original base ship, Home, an old Tsukkian water freighter. The freighter has been heavily modified and strengthened by Rebel Alliance technicians due to the fact that the old hauler originally could have been destroyed by a single TIE Fighter. Even though Home has been strengthened, the Fakir Sector Force still keeps with tradition, and remains constantly on the move, following no discernible pattern and never visiting the same place twice (if possible).
spacer-blank.png
Communications: Personnel leaving Home base are not told where the ship will be going next. Instead, they are given the co-ordinates of a communications satellite to which they must send a request for pick-up when their mission is completed. The ComSat forwards the message to another, and then another. The message may pass through as many as six satellites before it reaches the Home Fleet. New order co-ordinates for pick-up are sent back through the same circuitous route, although Mission Groups have the nasty habit o giving coordinate requests. While this necessitates a communications delay of sometimes up to two days, the safety of Home base is ensured. Direct communications between ships and the base are not only forbidden, they are impossible.
spacer-blank.png
Command Structure: Rebel High Command has assigned various rebel teams and officers to the Sector Force as well as establishing a set command structure. The current leader, or Commander in Chief is Mikka Reekeene, Lens’ husband. He was given the position due to his kindness and familiarity with the Sector, its cultures and the Sector Force’s personnel. Another major reason is that the original leader of the Roughnecks, Lens Reekeene, his wife, went missing while returning from negotiations with High Command Officials. Mikka is still saddened by his loss and does not particularly enjoy being at the top. Mikka is assisted by Santhou, his long time friend and aide. In the last few years however, Mikka has become more of a figure-head, and now plays little role in the running of the Sector Force.
spacer-blank.png
The position of Chief of Staff is held by Rebel officer, General Hannibal Romilar. Romilar is the centre of the hierarchy and directly answerable to Mikka. Romilar and Mikka in the past have worked well together and both have a good understanding of each other. It is because of this that Mikka is more inclined to go along with Hannibal. Romilar is commander of the Starfighter compliment, the Rebel Intelligence unit and has been given command of the Mission Groups assigned to the Sector. Recently, he has given direct control of Mission Groups to Major Lawra Mers, a Rebel officer recently transferred from Mortex Sector Command. Both are assisted by a further three officers.
spacer-blank.png
Starship and Fighter Support: The modifications to Home have allowed High Command to dispatch two squadrons containing, twelve X-Wings (Green Squadron), eight Y-Wings (Blue Squadron) and four A-Wings (grey Squadron) to the Sector Force. The Squadrons are commanded by Commander Bakki Romilar, the original wing commander of the Reekeene Roughnecks, and the son of Hannibal. In more recent times, one of these squadrons under the command of Bakki has broken away from the main fleet, and has named itself Dragon Squadron. This squadron operates out of a stolen Nebulon-B frigate, once called the Revenant , now named The Dragon’s Lair. The squadron is still attached to the Fakir Sector Force, however has become autonomous. The Fakir Sector Force also consists of a number of larger capital ships namely three Corellian Corvettes (Reekeene’s Revenge, the Forever Star and the Larossian Essence – Medical Ship) and four Gallofree Yards Action V Bulk Transport Freighters (King Starleete, Ellanor, Lion’s Pride, and the Escapade). Some of these ships have since been either destroyed in combat or have been stripped down to use in the construction of the Home Base on Masterhome. Some however, have been used as transport ships, and rescue vessels on more than one occasion.
spacer-blank.png
Intelligence Bureau: Intelligence has become vital in the Fakir Sector in recent times due to the increase in Imperial activity. High Command has assigned four Intel Officers including one of their top operatives, Lieutenant Carlos Jullid. Jullid is a cold, hard man, but High Command believes that he has the ability to gain results.
spacer-blank.png
The Kaldra: During the amalgamation of the two resistance groups, a point raised by the Kaldra was that a large number of their kind preferred Midge Dankwater as their leader rather than an outsider. To accommodate for this, Midge was given a portfolio in charge of the administration of the Sarnikalon Resistance Force which has essentially remained a separate entity.
spacer-blank.png
Ordnance and Supply: Supply is controlled by Captain Hark’r, a Noehon who was originally brought aboard “Home” as a prisoner. High Command has also found it necessary to send a compliment of 24 special forces soldiers to Home, commanded by the famous Sullustian tactician, Captain Nulg Neeub. This has been necessary due to the increase of Imperial activity in the sector. Neeub controls all teams from Home, and performs a flawless job. His is annoyed that he does not have command of the Mission Groups, but is satisfied that they are being taken care of by Romilar and Mers. Neeub’s command is partially separate from the hierarchy, although to make matters easier, High Command has relinquished partial command of Special Forces activities to General Romilar.
