Since the destruction of the second Death Star, the galaxy has changed dramatically. The Rebel Alliance has expanded, and the Empire is being forced from the Core Worlds. With the help from the Heroes of Yavin, the New Republic was formed.
The Empire still maintains control of some sectors and areas of space that the New Republic has not been able to reach due to the depleting resources available to them. Even so, they have been utilising its various operatives and Rebel Cells that were established during the war. Through this, the New Republic is gaining a strong foot-hold over most sympathising planets. Unfortunately, this is the hardest part of the change-over process.
This campaign is set when the New Republic was formed only 6 months ago. This means that the strength of the New Republic is still weak, and the Imperials are still confused. Small sectors are banding together and are fighting to gain vital areas of space. Most importantly is the recent chain of events which have occurred within the Tamarin Sector. Ex-Grand Moff (and now Governor) Ludvic Ven Dorne, has banded together 5 Sectors all within the Outer Rim Territories in an attempt to gain back much of which he controlled in the Fakir region of space during the height of the Emperor’s rule. This has become a great concern for the New Republic due to the fact that major resources are situated within these areas of space. Also, as Ven Dorne was one of the most feared Grand Moffs, primarily due to his connections with the ISB, but also because he was responsible for the construction and research of “Operation: Blue Harvest”. Ven Dorne also strong connections with both Imperials and Fringe alike which made his hold on the regions he previously controlled infamous throughout the rebellion against the Empire.
Another great concern is that of the smugglers and the Fringe. These areas of space contain a great wealth of information, profit-making ventures and Corporations intent on making a profit “on the side”. If the Empire is to gain a strong foot-hold in these areas, it would mean that the Fringe would be doomed. It has not helped that the New Republic Council has banned any association with the Fringe much to the objection of General Solo.
